Overview
Challenge
Design and functionality of the autonomous carts needed to contain specific slots for large quantities of hard drives in production.
Tantamount to the cart design was a durable transparent door with easy maneuverability to access materials. Carts were needed in both North American headquarters in Minnesota and European headquarters in Ireland.
Solution
A custom designed autonomous stainless steel cart with top facing plastic slides and engineered slots to hold the hard drives to exact specifications.
Accommodating international time zones, the design was developed via teleconference with the help of engineers, project managers, and the client determining the essential functions of the cart, the plant environments to which the cart needed to adapt, as well as the client’s timeline and budget.
To meet the unique parameters of the semi-finished hard drives in production, cart materials included sourcing scratch resistant plexi-glass sliding doors for easy material access, custom plastic slides, and Australian roto-casters.
Initial sales drawings and consecutive iterations were developed by an LCS engineer, until the materials used to create the design, were suited to the plant environments and protecting the delicacy of hard drives in fabrication.
A demo cart was built and sent to the manufacturer’s North American headquarters in Minnesota for live testing where it preformed without fault. The demo design was put into full production and shipped out to Seagate’s multiple headquarters.
LCS is pleased to continue to provide service and warranty on these carts at both locations, while Seagate is looking to work with us on future projects.
